SER Trucks on high profile Network Rail job in Scotland

Stevens Equipment Rental recently teamed up with another Cumbrian firm, Waitings, to supply trucks on a major Network Rail project at Ravenscraig.
Waitings were working with yet another Cumbrian outfit, Story Contracting, as they constructed a new bridge under the West Coast Mainline. The earthworks part of the project involved excavating around 36,000 tonnes of material from the railway embankment before the job witnessed one of the largest bridge lifts in Europe as the precast bridge, weighing in at 5,000 tonnes, was moved into place.
The embankment was then backfilled before the track and overhead line equipment were reinstated ready for trains again. Costing over £16 million, the project had an impressive 10-day turnaround with all parties working around the clock to ensure there were no delays.
SER fully played their part arranging the supply of several 30 tonne dumptrucks along with an SER employed operator who worked all shifts asked of him – regardless of the time, day or night!
We carried out a similar project with Waitings a few years ago in Oxford so when Andrew Huddart contacted us I knew exactly what would be required.
He needed reliable trucks to run alongside his excavators working 24 hours a day – there was no room for downtime, this was a time critical project.
Our local operator Pete Doherty was a credit to us finishing some shifts at 3.30am and we didn’t hear from site until the job was complete – a sign that the trucks did exactly what was asked of them.

You can view footage from the job online with SER trucks in action shortly after the minute mark. And if you’re impressed by that, the previous time SER supplied trucks to Waitings for a similar job was in Oxford in 2019 – timelapse footage of that job can also be viewed online.
